Injuries to workers commonly occur when machines are not maintained correctly. They can become unreliable resulting in faults. These faults can have damning effects.
Unguarded Rotating Machinery Dangers
Entanglement incidents on unguarded rotating machinery are happening far too often. A recent prosecution by the HSE has seen an agricultural machine manufacturer fined a whopping £60k. The incident which occurred in January 2019 saw the worker become entangled on a rotating workpiece of the machinery. He suffered extensive injuries which resulted in his arm being amputated from the shoulder.
Further to this, the East Yorkshire company pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2 (1) of the Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974. They were fined £60,000 and ordered to pay costs of £7,618.
